Kathy Maister's reaction was, "Talk about living the dream!" when she heard the news of being nominated for The Best Video Podcast along such trailblazers as Ask A Ninja and Tiki Bar TV in the 2007 Podcast Awards. StartCooking.com was launched late last year to showcase to the world that anyone can cook. Host and producer Kathy Maister believes everyone can cook and takes great pride in showcasing simple yet tasty recipes through her blog and podcast. She has shared her time tested recipes for everything from Beef Stew, to 7 Layer Dip, to a very simple home made lasagna. She most recently shared recipes for Scallops and Saffron Sauce from the movie No Reservations, which she was asked by Warner Brothers to host a special Boston screening of. Kathy Maister has been passionate about cooking, food, and teaching for as far back as she can remember. Kathy's lifelong dream has been to inspire people who have never cooked before to say: "I can do that!" Born and raised in Massachusetts, Kathy graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a major in Home Economics, then moved to Boston and became a Home Ec teacher. When cutbacks meant no more budget for Home Economics classes, Kathy was afraid her dream of teaching cooking was gone forever. Through the power of new media her dreams lives on through the StartCooking blog and podcast. The site is in constant forward motion as the new "Tips and Tricks" videos are a testament to. These quick, informative and easy to master series of videos are geared towards. Rather then the usual full blown recipes, they are short videos highlighting skills that will be needed to learn to cook. The first one shows how to boil an egg. Sounds simple and easy, but if you have never done it then it can be daunting. In sixty seconds you can go from not knowing how to do it, to being a pro at it. That is the goal. "I'm overjoyed with this nomination as it validates all the hard work we've put into the show", says Kathy who is still glowing from being told about the nomination.
